High-Speed Door with LED Safety System & Convex Mirror — Warehouse, Mississauga

The Challenge

Warehouse thoroughfares and internal zone separation points are among the highest-risk areas in any distribution or logistics facility. Forklifts and pedestrians share tight corridors, speeds are higher than they appear to an outside observer, and door openings create a sight-line problem — a forklift approaching a closed door can’t see what’s on the other side, and a pedestrian passing near the door can’t see an oncoming forklift about to cycle through. A door that cycles slowly makes the risk window longer; a door without integrated safety signalling leaves operators and pedestrians with no warning that traffic is incoming.

This Mississauga warehouse needed a high-speed door that didn’t just cycle fast — it needed to actively communicate door state and incoming traffic warnings to both sides of the opening, and provide visual coverage of the approach angle where direct sight lines didn’t exist.

The Solution

Wilcox Door Service installed a high-speed fabric roll-up door with a fully integrated safety system designed for active warehouse environments. Red LED safety light strips were mounted on both guide columns, providing a clear and unmistakable visual warning on both sides of the opening — active when the door is cycling or when motion is detected. The LED system gives both forklift operators and pedestrians a warning they can act on before committing to movement through the opening zone.

A convex safety mirror was installed above the door opening, providing coverage of the approach angle that can’t be seen directly from either side — eliminating the blind approach scenario that creates collision risk at high-speed door openings. Together, the LED safety system and the convex mirror provide layered active and passive safety coverage at an opening where forklift and pedestrian traffic share the same narrow corridor.

Product: High-Speed Fabric Roll-Up Door  |  Safety Features: Dual-column LED safety light strips, convex approach mirror  |  Application: Active warehouse forklift and pedestrian corridor  |  Location: Mississauga, Ontario

Outcomes

The combination of high-speed cycling, LED safety signalling, and convex mirror coverage transformed a high-risk warehouse opening into a properly managed traffic control point. Forklift operators and pedestrians have clear, visible warnings of door state and incoming traffic from both sides of the opening, and the convex mirror eliminates the blind approach zone that previously created collision risk. The facility’s safety profile at this opening improved significantly, and the installation stands as a model for how a high-speed door opening in a busy warehouse should be equipped.

Why Wilcox

A fast door in a busy warehouse isn’t automatically a safe one. The safety system around the door — LED warnings, approach mirrors, detection loops — is as important as the door itself at a high-traffic internal opening. Wilcox Door Service designs the full safety package into high-speed door installations at warehouse corridor applications, not just the door. If you have high-speed doors at forklift/pedestrian crossings without active safety signalling, that’s a risk worth reviewing.
