The Challenge

A commercial warehouse in Mississauga needed a door operator upgrade, but the opening geometry made a standard trolley-style overhead operator impossible to install. Conventional trolley operators require a clear overhead rail running the length of the door travel — and in this case, there was no available headroom or clearance for that configuration. The warehouse needed powered door operation, but the building’s structure ruled out the most common operator type.

Beyond the clearance constraint, the door’s weight and the expected cycle frequency required an operator with the torque capability to handle the load reliably over the long term — not an underpowered unit that would struggle from day one and fail early under the operational demands of a working warehouse.

The Solution

Wilcox Door Service specified and installed a Manaras gearhead commercial door operator in a side-mount jackshaft configuration. The gearhead jackshaft operator mounts directly to the wall beside the door, driving the torsion shaft through a gear reduction mechanism — eliminating the need for overhead rail clearance entirely. This configuration solves the headroom problem cleanly while providing the torque required to operate heavy commercial overhead doors reliably under high-cycle conditions.

The Manaras unit was selected for its proven reliability in commercial warehouse applications — a product specification that matches the operational demands of the environment rather than a light-duty unit that would be undersized for the application. The operator was mounted, wired, and commissioned with travel limits and force settings calibrated to the door’s weight and hardware configuration.

Outcomes

The warehouse now has reliable powered door operation without the overhead clearance that a trolley operator would have required. The Manaras gearhead operator handles the door’s weight and cycle frequency without strain, and the side-mount configuration integrates cleanly into the wall space beside the opening without consuming the overhead clearance that wasn’t available. The warehouse manager can operate the door from either the wall control or a remote, and the system has operated without maintenance issues since installation.
