The Challenge

An industrial storage building in Hamilton needed a rolling steel service door to secure an exterior opening on a tan metal siding structure. The facility operated under a controlled-access, safety-regulated environment with equipment and pallet-stored materials inside — making reliable door closure and robust security a genuine operational requirement, not just a preference. The Solution

Wilcox Door Service supplied and installed a rolling steel service door with a dark brown curtain, selected to complement the tan metal siding of the building and provide a cohesive, professional appearance at the exterior opening. The exterior-mounted hood was specified with shielding to protect the coil mechanism and spring assembly from weather exposure — preventing the premature corrosion and weather damage that affects unshielded exterior rolling door hardware in Ontario’s climate.

The spring counterbalance was correctly sized for the door’s weight to ensure smooth manual operation, and the curtain gauge was specified for the security and weather resistance requirements of a controlled-access storage facility. The installation was anchored to the metal siding structure with appropriate hardware to maintain the building envelope without compromising the siding’s weather resistance.

Outcomes

The exterior opening is now secured with a rolling steel door that provides the access control and weather performance the storage facility requires. The dark brown curtain integrates visually with the tan metal siding, maintaining the building’s professional exterior appearance.
