The Challenge

A high-traffic distribution loading area in Mississauga needed a rolling steel door to secure a significant exterior opening — one large enough that the structural requirements were meaningfully different from a standard commercial rolling door installation. The Solution

Wilcox Door Service supplied and installed a large rolling steel service door with metallic silver panels and green-grey frame jambs — a finish combination that provided corrosion resistance appropriate for the loading dock environment and visual integration with the building’s mixed masonry and metal exterior. The metallic silver curtain panels offer long-term corrosion resistance essential in a dock environment exposed to weather, vehicle exhaust, and the general conditions of an active outdoor loading area.

The sill detailing around the floor trench drain was managed precisely — the door’s bottom bar, floor guides, and sill seal were all specified and installed with the drain’s position accounted for, maintaining a clean, functional transition at the sill without creating an obstruction to drainage or a gap in the door’s weather seal. The spring counterbalance was calculated for the door’s larger-than-standard dimensions and weight, and the installation was anchored to the surrounding masonry and metal structure appropriately for a large-format exterior rolling door.

Outcomes

The loading dock exterior opening is secured with a large rolling steel door that handles the structural and cycle demands of an active distribution environment.
